Ahok's Fiery Campaign Style Raises Concerns for Ganjar-Mahfud Campaign

JAKARTA, LELEMUKU.COM - As the Indonesian presidential race heats up, Ahok, known for his bold and confrontational style, has taken center stage. However, experts warn that his tactics could harm the presidential and vice-presidential candidate pair of Ganjar Pranowo-Mahfud Md.

Ujang Komarudin, a political expert from Al Azhar Indonesia University, expressed his concerns regarding Ahok's campaign approach.

He believes that Ahok's combative demeanor, particularly his recent attacks on Gibran Rakabuming Raka, could pose a threat to Ganjar-Mahfud's candidacy.

"Ahok's aggressive style of campaigning may not resonate well with Indonesian voters. This could potentially harm Ganjar-Mahfud's chances," remarked Ujang during a recent interview on Thursday afternoon, February 8, 2024.

Ahok's endorsement of Ganjar Pranowo, announced following his resignation as the Chief Commissioner of PT Pertamina, marked a significant shift in the political landscape.

However, his subsequent criticisms of rival candidates, particularly Gibran Rakabuming Raka, have sparked controversy.

In a viral video circulating on social media platforms, Ahok questioned Gibran's performance as the Mayor of Solo, as well as his father, President Joko Widodo.

"Now, I want to ask, where is the evidence that Gibran has been effective as mayor?" Ahok queried.

Ahok further questioned President Jokowi's performance, igniting debates over the effectiveness of the current administration.

"Do you think President Jokowi is also capable of working effectively? We can debate that. I know better. That's why I hesitate to speak publicly," Ahok asserted.

Moreover, Ahok took a swipe at the government's distribution of social assistance, likening it to practices from ancient times.

"Social assistance was only present during the era of kingdoms, when the people sought the king's mercy. The king determined who should receive compassion," Ahok remarked during a speech at the Ahokers' declaration event for Ganjar-Mahfud in the Volunteer House of Ganjar-Mahfud in Central Jakarta, on Sunday, February 4, 2024.
